Toyama’s Gourmet Creators

Toyama Prefecture has recognized individuals and organizations, certified as Gourmet Creators, who possess exceptional knowledge and skills as they actively promote fresh products from Toyama’s sea, land, and mountains, as well as traditional local cuisine and creative dishes that fully utilize Toyama-sourced ingredients.
There are three categories of Toyama’s Gourmet Creators: Specialty Creators, who promote specialty products related to the production and processing of prefectural agriculture, forestry, and fishery; Traditional Creators, who use Toyama-sourced ingredients to raise awareness of food culture tied to traditional local cuisine; and Artisanal Creators, who shape new areas of Toyama food culture through dishes and processed foods created from local ingredients.

These master creators utilize a variety of settings at food events, such as cooking demonstrations, children’s nutrition classes, traditional cooking classes, and appearances in YouTube recipe videos, to disseminate their knowledge and skills.

Ingredients from Toyama

Toyama features a uniquely diverse topography with an elevation gap of 4000 meters, spanning from its 3000-meter-high Tateyama Mountain Range to its 1000-meter-deep Toyama Bay, also known as “nature’s fish preserve”. This allows the prefecture to produce numerous specialty products from the sea, land, and mountains.
Winter is a time to enjoy the best of Toyama cuisine, including Japanese amberjack, red snow crab, and eelpout freshly fished from Toyama Bay, as well as vegetables and root crops made sweeter by the cold weather.

Toyama Sake

Toyama blessed with abundant spring water and water sourced from the Northern Japan Alps. Each brewery uses this high-quality water for every stage of brewing sake, from washing bottles and tanks to washing, soaking, and diluting rice. This pure water is a vital part of making well-renowned sake known across the country.
